ALONG THE MEADOW

Anti-Aging Glow Serum

February 17, 2021 · In: DIY, skincare

This homemade facial serum is great for all skin types and can be used to fight signs of aging or help to soften lines that are already there!

I try to keep my skincare routine pretty simple but focused on. This serum is very close to an anti-aging oil I once sold and had a bit of a cult following for. I got many upset messages when I closed up that shop but it’s super easy to make at home. And if used consistently you’ll be amazed at how it makes your skin really glow!

Glow Serum

  • 1 fl oz jojoba oil
  • 15 drops Frankincense essential oil
  • 10 drops Helichrysum essential oil
  • 10 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops Geranium essential oil

Apply morning and night under moisturizer of spf. I like the feel of jojoba oil and it will not clog your pores but it can always be changed out for argan, rosehip, grapeseed or any combination of these.

Make sure to apply it around the eye area and for goodness sakes don’t forget about the decollete! While you’re at it rub some on the backs of you hands to cover all the places superficial aging happens.

Breakdown of Ingredients

Frankincense

The king of essential oils and for good reason. Frankincense has been shown to reduce redness and even out skin tone while reducing the appearance of scars and wrinkles.

Helichrysum

Helichrysum might not be an oil that you are familiar with but you will be thankful to have discovered it once you start reaping it’s benefits. It is also known as Immortelle or Everlasting if that gives you any indication of it’s worth in your skincare routine. It is anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that is used primarily for skin conditons. I have seen it work absolute wonders on scars and wrinkles.

Lavender

A powerful healing oil with properties that help reduce inflammation and bacteria, I never let Lavender run out in our house and use it on my skin daily. It can also help alleviate stress which ultimately prevents the formation of frown lines!

Geranium

Geranium has regenerating actions on skin cells and astringent properties that tighten. It is known to be a wonderful wound healer as well.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil is not actually an oil, it’s a wax and because of this it has a longer shelf life than most oils. It is non-comedogenic and closely resembles our skin’s natural sebum. Jojoba Oil is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal making it a great choice for all skin types including acne prone. You will also be getting benefits from some of the vitamins and minerals that it is reach in like Vitamin E.

Want to make this serum even more emollient?

Add a drop or two of Vegetable Glycerin before applying to the skin. This is a secret ingredient of mine that magically combats dryness overnight!

I couldn’t agree more! 🌸 I couldn’t agree more! 🌸
Plantain for the win! My daughter got a spider 🕷 bite yesterday morning that immediately swelled and became hard so I ran out to the backyard and grabbed a Plantain leaf. I bruised the leaf and placed it on the bite mark then wrapped her foot with an elastic bandage. We changed out the Plantain leaf 3 times and by last night it was totally back to normal! 🙌🏼

Plantain can actually pull out venom or infection from the skin’s tissues. Native Americans called it “snake weed” for this reason.

As a caveat I’m not saying to use it in replacement of medical treatment for a venomous snake or poisonous spider bite but what I am saying is to use it until you can get medical treatment if needed. In a survival situation knowing how to identify and use Plantain could very well save your life.
Did you know that Magnolia has potent anti-inflamm Did you know that Magnolia has potent anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive (reducing sensitivity to painful stimuli) properties? The bark, green cones and flower buds can all be used.

It is also shown to work on the endocrine system by increasing GABA activity and reducing stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol.

Magnolia can be made into a tincture or it’s petals used in a salad. 🥗
