Coffee-Infused Castor Oil Eye Serum

Coffee-Infused Castor Oil Eye Serum Recipe

If you’ve been following me on social media, you may have already seen this little eye serum making the rounds. It recently started getting a lot of attention, so I figured it was time to put the recipe here.

It’s a really simple combination of coffee-infused castor oil and it’s become one of my favorite little additions to my morning and evening skincare routine.

I especially like using the rollerball because the application is quick and easy, and the cool roller feels nice around the eyes.

What You’ll Need

  • 8 mL coffee-infused castor oil – get organic and hexane-free like this one
  • 8 coffee beans – this is the one I use from Purity Coffee
  • 10 mL glass roller bottle – I bought these

That’s it! I like keeping the formula simple, especially for something I’m using around my eyes because I tend to be sensitive there like a lot of people.

How to Make Coffee-Infused Castor Oil

First, you’ll need to make your coffee-infused castor oil.

Add coffee beans to a clean 10 ml roller bottle, top with castor oil and let it infuse in a dark cool place. I let mine sit for several weeks, giving the jar a gentle shake every so often.

I like leaving the coffee beans in the oil rather than straining them out. There’s something I love about seeing the beans sitting in the beautiful oil. They make impressive gifts too!

How I Use It

I roll a very small amount underneath each eye and gently pat it in with my ring finger. Make sure you don’t go past the eye bone – the oil will travel.

You don’t need much. A little goes a long way with castor oil.

I like using it in the morning as part of my regular skincare routine, especially when my skin is feeling a little dry.

Just be careful not to get the oil in your eyes. Keep the roller clean and don’t share it with anyone.

Do a test patch and stop using it if you notice irritation.

Why Coffee and Castor Oil?

Castor oil is a thick, rich oil that’s especially nice for dry skin. It contains a high concentration of ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that gives castor oil its characteristic thick texture and makes it a good emollient for the skin. Around the eyes, I like it because it creates a moisturizing layer over the skin and helps keep the delicate area from feeling dry.

Coffee contains naturally occurring antioxidant compounds, including polyphenols, and coffee-derived ingredients have been studied for their potential benefits in skincare. Caffeine applied topically has also been studied for its effects on the appearance of the under-eye area, particularly temporary puffiness.

A Few Tips

Use a clean roller bottle – Since you’re using it around the eyes, start with a clean container and keep the roller clean. Keep water out of the roller bottle too to avoid it from getting moldy.

Don’t overdo it – You only need a tiny amount under each eye. Don’t get too close to the eye socket either, stay on the eye bone area.

Pay attention to the oil – If the smell or appearance changes, it’s time to discard it.

Patch test first – If you’ve never used one of the oils on your skin before, test a small amount first.

Bottle color – Some people prefer to use a dark amber glass roller bottle for their skincare, I am ok using a clear bottle because I keep it out of sunlight.
