Lemon essential oil might be one of the most used essential oil in our home. It is one of those multifunctional oils that is great for so many different reasons. I use it to clean with, in the diffuser for an energy boost or using it on the bottoms of the feet in the seasonal allergy roller bottle blend that is shared below. I find myself reaching for it all throughout the day!
Sourced primarily in Argentina and South Africa, Lemon (Citus limon) is apart of the Rutaceae botanical family and an evergreen that can reach up to 20 feet. It’s oil is cold pressed from the rinds and takes approximately 75 lemons to make just one 15 ml bottle of essential oil!
Lemon Essential Oil Benefits
Lemon essential oil is full of medicinal properties such as being antimicrobial, antiseptic, immune stimulant, carminative, diuretic and anti-tumoral.
It can help to stimulate lymphatic drainage and detoxify the body. It is especially helpful to diffuse during sickness to give the immune system a boost and reduce respiratory distress. Lemon’s fresh aroma can also help to reduce stress and energize. When taken internally it supports the metabolism and helps with weight loss.
One big benefit of Lemon essential oil is in using it for nausea and morning sickness. This study shows the use of Lemon aromatherapy to significantly lower nausea and vomiting. Inhalation of Lemon was shown to be even more effective than Peppermint.
As a homeschool mom I can really appreciate this next study which shows Lemon to reduce test anxiety. I will be adding it to the diffuser a lot more frequently when we are homeschooling!
